AFP Introduces Advanced Diffusion Bonded Manifolds for Precision Fluid Control
Chicago, IL [July 29, 2025] — AFP, a trusted ISO 9001 provider of bonded fluidic manifolds with 35+ years of industry
expertise, has launched its new advanced, diffusion-bonded manifold manufacturing process designed for high-precision
fluid control in laboratory instruments and diagnostic systems.
AFP's custom manifold capability offers instrument design engineers durability, reliability, and customization across a widevariety of laboratory, diagnostic, and research applications.
Diffusion bonding is a specialized manufacturing process that involves joining layers of materials at the molecular level without adhesives or fillers, using just heat and pressure. The result is a leak-free, high-integrity manifold with complex internal channel configurations, allowing precise fluid or gas distribution in a small footprint.
AFP's diffusion-bonded manifolds are ideal for diagnostics, central lab, and point-of-care applications, automation, genomics and proteomics research, microfluidic systems, and DNA sequencing.
Key innovations and advantages include:
• Leak-Free Performance: The diffusion bonding process and testing ensures robust, seamless layers, preventing leaks and ensuring long-term reliability.
• Custom Channel Designs: AFP's technology allows for intricate 3D flow paths and multi-layer channel configurations, enabling custom fluid control tailored to specific instrument designs.
• Material Versatility: Manufactured from your choice of engineering plastics, including Acrylic (PMMA), Ultem (PEI), Polycarbonate (PC), COP, COC, and Polysulfone (PSU), giving the designer the ability to optimize for the application
• Compact and Efficient: The design of diffusion-bonded manifolds minimizes the need for external connections, reducing the overall size of fluid control systems and simplifying integration into laboratory equipment.
• Engineering Support: AFP wants to collaborate with you on your manifold to ensure an outcome that exceeds your expectations. Together, we can create the best manifold assembly for your requirements.
• Concept to Production: AFP works with clients from the early concept stage, through prototyping and pilot, to commercial launch and serial production. We understand the requirements for speed of iteration early in the cycle, quality throughout, and partnership during the entire lifecycle.
AFP offers a collaborative design and development process, working closely with fluidic design engineers to create manifold assemblies that meet specific application requirements. The assemblies can include integrated components such as solenoid valves, sensors, heaters, chambers, bubble detection, and AFP's industry-first IERV
rotary valves.
